For a program that has advanced to six consecutive NCAA Championship finals, with two titles in that span, 2012 seemed the logical year that Stanford’s men’s gymnastics program would recede from title consideration to rebuild for another extended championship run. Freshman Kristian Ipsen dived into history Friday, becoming the first Stanford diver in 82 years to win at the NCAA championships. He won the 3-meter event with a score of 466.05 in Federal Way, Wa., helping the Cardinal secure fourth place entering the final day.
